'UTC Leeds will be a great springboard for younger people to 'get excited' about engineering – particularly in the food sector. We need a strong, recognizedbrand for talent pipeline reasons to manage the current wage escalation and loss of engineering jobs to more lucrative deals around the rest of the UK.'
CW Edwards, OBE (Global Senior HR Consultant / Technical Competence Manager)
Arla Foods UK plc
'Moving forward we are excited at the possibility of having a greater opportunity to be involved with the UTC Leeds on many levels and involving so many of our staff. We would be more than willing participants for any work experience placement support required, which is something we currently provide; also supporting programmes of student development in an advisory capacity or by setting up lectures, visits, mock interviews. We currently work with our local universities on summer placement projects, which is a model that could easily be replicable for UTC Leeds students. The final support would come from employer sponsorship for any student we feel fits with our culture and business model.'
WM Limbert (Managing Director)
LAMBERT (a division of Lambert Engineering Ltd)
'We wish to confirm our desire for the establishment of a UTC in Leeds and have been actively involved in preparing the UTC Leeds bid. We offer our ongoing support to the UTC Leeds including involvement in governance; provision of work experience placements; mentoring of students; development and delivery of technical project assignments and access to workplace technology visits.'
S Laycock (SU Tech Manager) & N Chambers (HR Manager)
'A fully functioning UTC which delivers young people to pathways into people to real jobs in a strong sector goes a long way to keep school aged pupils and their parents engaged in pursuing a career or further education in manufacturing or engineering. By doing so it will keep open the means of gaining entry to challenging, well paid and secure careers in the engineering and manufacturing sectors.'
A Tuscher (Region Director)
'We at 600 UK Ltd can offer many different contributions to a Local UTC, from Factory visits, work experience, mentoring, mock interviews, seminars etc. The concept of UTC's is very beneficial to the local manufacturing and engineering community. We also find it a privilege to be able to help with this project at such an early stage, and will continue our support when the UTC Leeds has been confirmed.'
