Student Stories - Meet Caitlin

Meet Caitlin

Caitlin is a year 12 student who came over to England from America around 7 and a half years ago. At UTC Leeds she focuses on chemistry, maths and engineering, and hopes to go on to study chemical engineering at University. She recently made her own drone for her EPQ project, and has also been involved in creating 3D printed prosthetic arms for African children. Pretty cool right?

So what's her story?

Well, where do you start?! Outside of UTC Leeds, Caitlin is a Korean Martial Arts expert – after coming 2nd in the U.S. nationals, she then went on to win gold in England's national championships. But it doesn’t end there - she’s also competed in swimming and athletics for South and West Yorkshire, and swims regularly for charities like Marie Curie.

When she’s not coordinating charity events, she’s also the head of marketing and promotions at her local youth board. On top of all that, Caitlin is also a Prefect at UTC Leeds, edits the UTC Newsletter and helps out with tutoring GCSE Science. She admits that some days she’ll be at UTC Leeds before any teachers are, and she barely stops to sleep!

Caitlin appreciates how her time at UTC Leeds has opened up a world of opportunities to her that might not have been available to her elsewhere. The world is her chemically engineered oyster…
