UTC Leeds’ student design features in Virgin Media Voom2018

When Year 13 student Ethan designed a stunning F1 style race car wheel as part of his course, Head of Engineering Bradley Mellor posted it on the UTC Twitter account. What followed was completely unexpected.
Ethan set to work on Autodesk Fusion 360, the top-spec 3D design package that the UTC uses to teach advanced CAD skills to its students. Ethan’s F1 racing car design is now featured on the video pitch that SCU Motorsport has entered on the Virgin Media Voom2018 platform. If successful, the idea will be pitched to Richard Branson.
The idea of the SCU Motorsports’ pitch is a race series specifically for colleges and universities that will allow them to compete on an even footing against other education establishments. The race series will also be linked to training specifically for the motor sports industry. The aim is to improve training opportunities for engineers wanting to go into the motor sports sector so they can get much more hands-on experience of what it’s like to be involved in racing.
The plan is to build and tour Ethan’s eye-catching car design. If funding can be secured, SCU Motorsport will partner with UTC Leeds on the development of the car and has the support of the British Racing and Sports Car Club (BRSCC) who will run the race series once developed.
The company is seeking funding and partners to support the development of two prototypes; 1 electric and 1 petrol to showcase at various events this year, i.e., the World Skills Show, Motorsport Days Live and then a full launch at Autosport 2019.
Please vote for SCU Motorsport in Voom2018 to help Ethan’s car to become a reality!
